Many people celebrate being rescued from a car accident, a serious illness, violence, abuse or another life-threatening situation. And rightly so! We should thank God for His mercy. However, God’s purpose in saving our lives is grater than simply extending our time on here. TIME IS MERCY! With that said, God doesn’t just save us from something–He saves us FOR something.
He saves us from sin so we can live in righteousness. He saves us from darkness so we can walk in His marvelous light. He saves us from serving ourselves so we can serve and worship Him–In Spirit and in Truth. God does not preserve our lives so we can continue living in rebellion, practicing sin, or pursuing our own desires. His mercy is an invitation to repentance and transformation. (Ref. Ephesians 2:8-10) We were not only saved by grace, we were saved for God’s purpose.
“Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but, according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began”-2 Tim. 1:9
God’s salvation comes with a holy calling. Grace is not permission to remain the same it is the power to live differently. (Ref. Titus 2:11-12; Luke 9:23; 1 Peter 2:24). God’s mercy should never make us comfortable in sin–it should move us toward surrender. If God has spared your life, ask yourself:
Am I living for His glory or my own? Am I walking in obedience or resisting His will? Am I fulfilling the purpose for which He rescued me?
GOD SAVES US IN ORDER TO SAVE US–saving us from eternal separation from Him, while continually saving us from the power of sin by transforming our hearts into the image of Christ. He rescues us so we can become true worshippers who glorify Him with our lives. Your rescue has a purpose. Your life is HIS TESTIMONY. Live in the calling for which He saved you–UNWASTED.
