BOUNDARIES: Stay Within Your Spiritual Jurisdiction

“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” -Genesis 2:15-17

As we see here in Genesis, God was establishing parameters between everything he created. Everything was intentionally set in place and everything knew its place. Adam was given dominion of the land and had a wide range of freedom and authority within his jurisdiction, Eden. However, the only thing God limited him, and his soon-to-be companion from, was from the tree of knowledge.

God has granted us freedom to choose between good and evil, right from wrong, death and life but like a good parent, for our protection, He has also warned us and instructed us on what to do and what not to do. (Deut. 30:15-16 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statues, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”). Disobedience to God, just like obedience, leads to consequences (Deut. 28; Rev. 21: 7-8). So, the boundaries he has set in place for us, are for our protection. Think about the laws of the land that we’re governed by. These laws aren’t just for our protection but, for the protection of others around us. When we go beyond our legal rights and boundaries or when an officer goes beyond his/her legal jurisdiction, there are consequences.

John 16:13 “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

There are spiritual laws that both heaven and earth are governed by. We give the spirit realm authority in the earth and over our lives based on what we come into agreement with [verbal, binding contracts].

Col. 1:16 (ESV) “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”

Romans 13: 1-5 (AMP)” Let every person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment. Therefore he who resists and sets himself up against the authorities resists what God has appointed and arranged [in divine order]. And those who resist will bring down judgment upon themselves [receiving the penalty due them].For civil authorities are not a terror to [people of] good conduct, but to [those of] bad behavior. Would you have no dread of him who is in authority? Then do what is right and you will receive his approval and commendation.For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, [you should dread him and] be afraid, for he does not bear and wear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant to execute His wrath (punishment, vengeance) on the wrongdoer.Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God’s wrath and escape punishment, but also as a matter of principle and for the sake of conscience.

Matt. 16: 19 “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”.

Matt. 18:18 “Truly I say to you, whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

SET PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL BOUNDARIES IN YOUR LIFE

Just because we’re “allowed” doesn’t mean we should! It’s not good for us to expose ourselves to everything and everybody. For example, we’re currently still going through a pandemic. We’ve been instructed to SOCIALLY DISTANCE ourselves from ppl so that we’re careful not to expose others or become exposed ourselves, to a contagious, life-threatening viruses. Likewise, spiritually, we could become exposed to impurities that would eventually hinder our growth, contaminate our soul, and potentially cause us to die, if we don’t repent, QUICKLY! Everybody isn’t our assignment & we cannot help everybody. We weren’t created to do so. So, even our body is designed, purposely with limited abilities to separate us, humans, from God.

GUARD YOUR HEART (Prov. 4:23; 24:3), that’s what the breastplate of righteousness is for (Ephe. 6:10-18). GUARD YOUR MIND with the helmet of salvation (The Word of God) & be governed by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:14 “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God”.) God loves us and He calls us His children, when we are connected to His blood line (Isaiah 59:2; 1 Cor. 6:9-10), and like any other good parent, God loves us enough to protect us from harm, including self-sabotage. We become the victim of our own demise when allow any and everything in our lives and/or when we place ourselves within detrimental environments.

1 COR. 10:23 (NLT) You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.

Sometimes it’s not warfare against principalities that we end up wrestling with but, the war within ourselves to submit to authority and ordinance of God. And when we STOP fighting against the inevitable and realize that we’re no match for God, that everything has been established before we even existed, we will be able to walk in the authority & domain God has given unto us; in freedom.

2 Cor. 10:3-5 (KJV) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
